Thriving in the World of B&I Contract Catering

There are countless professions that started out as an unfashionable “little-brother”. For whatever reason brain surgeons are lauded above other sorts of doctors and rocket scientists praised over other chemists, biologists and physicists.

Business and Industry (B&I) catering could be considered another example. Plenty of people grow up wanting to be a chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant, or a fashionable London hotspot. But B&I catering and hospitality catering is often seen as less glamourous. It is time for this reputation to change.

Achieving a balance

Many chefs working in B&I catering also get the opportunity to mingle with some incredibly well known and talented chefs, whilst at the same time boasting greater autonomy and flexibility. Make no mistake, the work remains fast paced and at times challenging, but lots of people working in B&I catering say that they are able to maintain a better work-life balance.

Ability to tailor service

They are also far greater opportunities for caterers to build a deep and lasting bond with the companies they partner with. When you are working so closely with people over a period of years you are able to tailor your services to them, to host special theme-days or events that tie in with their operations and to provide a service which meets their specific needs.

This is especially important because the days are long gone when a company just wanted a vegetarian option or a meal containing no nuts et cetera. Organisations have even moved on even from a vegan option, they now want a vegan option with a twist, containing current trendy foods.

Variety of industries

B&I catering gives you the opportunity to work across countless industries and sectors including education, healthcare, media and hospitality. It gives you the opportunity to work in a whole host of different roles throughout the kitchen.
