INTRODUCING BARISTAR & BAKESTAR 2024

Applications now open!

We’re excited to announce that our beloved BariStar competition is back with an exciting new addition: baking! This year, baristas and bakers will battle it out in two parallel competitions to be crowned Lexington’s BariStar & BakeStar 2024.

BARISTAR COMPETITION
  • Submissions by the 6th September
  • Training rounds week of the 16th and 23rd September
  • Technical round on the 1st October
  • Grand finale on the 15th October
Brief

Participants will be assessed on the art of coffee science and preparation with an emphasis on handling coffee machines, adjusting settings for optimal espresso extraction, and milk texturing through the technical round. The grand finale will measure creativity, presentation, and execution quality.

BAKESTAR COMPETITION
  • Submissions by the 6th September
  • Announcement of second stage qualifiers on the 16th September
  • Tasting dates on the 26th and 27th September
  • Grand finale on the 15th October
Brief

Focused on plant-based baking, contestants will be asked to prepare tray bakes and a short bio during the qualification round and afternoon tea-sized desserts/cakes for the grand finale. The dishes will be judged on factors including flavours, textures, decoration, workflow, neatness and the locality of ingredients.
