Whenever I write this monthly blog I realise how time truly does fly by… just as our seasons do! So this month get your hands on the one ingredient that truly represents Great Britain – strawberries of course! Bursting with flavour, these red gems scream out for lashings of clotted cream and to be dolloped onto a warm scone or two.
Afternoon teas in the fancy and iconic hotels of London are full to the brim with Londoners and tourists alike eager for fancy cakes, strawberries and cream all washed down with lashings of tea -delicious! It’s worth keeping an eye out for the ‘pick your own’ or offers from the local shops and farms. I like to buy a big glut of them and then turn them into sticky jam for the year. I have a great jam recipe which we’ve put on the blog (click here). It’s so easy to make and best of all fills the kitchen with the wonderful, sweet, strawberry fragrance whilst it bubbles away.
Our chefs have been busy in the kitchen – young Louise Roberts has made it through to the semi-finals of the Craft Guild of Chefs graduate awards; such a challenging test, we wish her well. Our Lexy apprentices have been out with the Galvin Brothers apprentices to Dingley Dell farm to see some piggies and smell the country air! They have a whole year of amazing trips lined up – in fact I’m slightly jealous!
Have fun in the sun,
Eat, sleep, love.
