Ding dong December’s here! The fantastically mad season of eating and drinking is upon us!
I love the smell of clementine’s being peeled and mince pies cooking in the oven – try adding dried cranberries and pecans into the sweet mincemeat mix for real sumptuousness.
All the root vegetables that are in season will benefit from the first of the winter frosts that are beginning to creep in. Get your hands on the super seasonal sprout tops if you can, they are beautiful when pan-fried in garlic and finished with a splash of double cream.
I promised I’d let you know the winner of our annual LexChef competition and, drum roll please… our fabulously talented Tony Stuart took the crown in what was the closest LexChef competition ever. Lead judge Phil Howard from the two Michelin starred, The Square, was bowled over by the quality of all the finalists’ dishes. But it was his comment about how we use only fresh and seasonal produce that really made me smile and just goes to show that all the years of me shouting about ‘keeping it simple and seasonal’ has paid off!
I hope you are all looking forward to the big roast turkey and Christmas pud blow out that we’ve all got coming up! Make sure you save some space for the after dinner cheese board!
Whatever you plan to do this Christmas enjoy the family and safe travels…
Eat, drink and love,
