Goodbye May, Hello June!

Wow, what a month!

May has just flown by – we’ve had sunshine, we’ve had rain, and even the odd storm or two!

It’s certainly been a busy month with two Bank Holidays and sunshine hitting the UK just in time for barbecue season. The food team has been hard at work with royal wedding themed celebrations, a vegan BBQ for one of our clients with cooking demos and much more.

One of the highlights this month has to be our visit to Refettorio Felix, in Earls Court.  It’s a fantastic community kitchen based in St Cuthbert’s Day Centre that offers a welcoming lunchtime food service to vulnerable members of the local community.

A few of us here at Lexington got the opportunity to visit the kitchen whilst two of our Lex School of Talent apprentice chefs, Louisa & Sam, worked with the team to create a delicious three-course meal from surplus ingredients that would otherwise be wasted.

It was amazing to be part of such a fabulous project and fantastic to get the opportunity to speak to members of the Refettorio Felix community and hear their stories. We hope to get back there very soon.

We also visited Great Ormond Street Hospital School (GOSH) and talked food with the children and families there. I’ve always found it to be a humbling experience visiting the team who work there and meet the families receiving treatment. It holds such a special place in my heart and it means so much to be able to give something back.

With BBQ season well and truly here we have some exciting things planned. We are putting the final plans in place for a Lexy family day outing this summer! This is set to be great fun with a BBQ and farm visit, including tractor rides for the children, strawberry picking, jam making, farm tour and much more.

I always find June such an exciting time food wise.  Lots of fruit coming into season and there’s such a wide array of lovely British vegetables at their best.  It’s a great time to go out and get picking so enjoy!

Eat. Sleep. Love
